Public Notice CRTC 1998-16

  The Commission has received the following applications:
  1. ACROSS CANADA
  Application (199707816) by CANADIAN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS INC. (CANCOM) to amend the broadcasting licence of the multiple-channel television and radio broadcasting relay distribution undertaking, by adding the signal of Euronews, to the list of signals that it is authorized to distribute and to the list of Part II Eligible Satellite Services, Section "A" (Part II list, Section "A") and the list of Part III Eligible Canadian Satellite Services (Part III Canadian list).
  The Commission notes that this application was filed with the Commission prior to 11 December 1997, the date on which it issued Public Notice CRTC 1997-33-2, Postponement of Public Hearing to Consider New Specialty and Pay Television Applications. In that notice, the Commission in announcing a moratorium on the addition of any new foreign services to the lists of eligible satellite services, stated that the moratorium did not apply to any applications currently before the Commission.

  2. EASTERN CANADA
  Application (199707601) by VIEWER'S CHOICE CANADA (VCC) (a general partnership consisting of NetStar Enterprises Inc., Rogers Pay-Per-View Inc. and TMN Network Inc.) to amend its condition of licence 4. VCC is licensed to carry on an English-language pay television programming undertaking to provide a general interest pay-per-view service via satellite to cable affiliates in Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces). Condition of licence 4 would read:
  The licensee shall contribute to The Harold Greenberg Fund/Le Fonds Harold Greenberg for equity investment in Canadian films, a minimum of 5% of the licensee's net revenues, over the licence term.
  instead of
  The licensee shall contribute to FUND, for FUND's equity investment in Canadian films, the sum of $6,500,000 or 5% of the licensee's net revenues whichever amount is greater, over the licence term.
  The licensee requests the proposed amendment in order to be consistent with the conditions of licence governing its direct-to-home pay-per-view and video-on-demand programming undertakings.
