Decision

Ottawa, 17 November 1998
Decision CRTC 98-497
Star-FM Radio Inc.
Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 1998-94
dated 4 September 1998
Format flexibility for CKSR-FM
1. The Commission approves the application to amend CKSR-FM Chilliwack's licence with respect to the station format. The licensee will have the flexibility to adjust popular music mixes and change popular music-based formats, but will be prevented from operating in the Specialty format.
2. In Public Notice CRTC 1995-60 dated 21 April 1995, the Commission announced the revision of the format system for commercial FM stations by eliminating the "Pop, Rock, and Dance" (Group I) and "Country" (Group II) formats. The Commission, however, retained the "Specialty" format. Stations offering programming based on jazz, classical music, news, talk, or a mix of various music styles would operate in the Specialty format.
3. The licensee has applied to replace its current commitments to operate exclusively within a Group I or Group II format with the following condition of licence:
This station will not operate within the Specialty format as defined in Public Notice CRTC 1995-60, or as amended from time to time.
Secretary General
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
