Decision

Ottawa, 4 February 1998

Decision CRTC 98-23

L'Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada inc. (ARC)

Across Canada - 199706173

New radio network

1. Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region held on 15 December 1997, the Commission approves the application by ARC for a national radio programming network licence aimed initially at French and Acadian community stations which are members of the ARC.

2. The network will provide continuous programming (24 hours per day). Radio stations which are members of the network could then, if necessary, tap into the network at any time during the day in order to complete their local programming.

3. The Commission will issue a network licence expiring 31 August 2004, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.

4. The Commission expects the programming offered by the network to the member stations to comply with the Radio Regulations, 1986 (the regulations), the conditions of licence of the individual stations and the Commission's community radio policy.

5. The Commission also expects the network's member stations to comply with the regulations and to adhere to their Promise of Performance and the Commission's community radio policy.

6. The Commission acknowleges the interventions filed in support of this application.

This decision is to be appended to the licence.
