Decision

Ottawa, 17 April 1998

Decision CRTC 98-127

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Toronto, Ontario - 199800010

Increase in power for CBLA-FM

1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1998-24 dated 16 March 1998, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CBLA-FM, the new FM radio programming undertaking at Toronto approved in Decision CRTC 97-362, by relocating the transmitter from the CN Tower to First Canadian Place and by increasing the effective radiated power from 35,200 watts to 48,000 watts. The licensee has indicated that the contours of the station will not be affected by this change.

2. The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

3. In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority will only be granted, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.

4. The Commission acknowledges the intervention filed in support of this application.

This decision is to be appended to the licence.

Laura M. Talbot-Allan
Secretary General
