MARITIME TEL & TEL - PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE LOCAL CALLING IN THE EXCHANGES ADJACENT TO A CUSTOMER'S HOME EXCHANGE
Reference: Tariff Notice 658
1. The Commission has received an application under Tariff Notice 658 from Maritime Tel & Tel (MT&T), dated 9 May 1997, for approval of tariff revisions, effective 1 October 1997, that would provide customers with expanded local calling to exchanges adjacent to the customer's home exchange.
2. Under MT&T's proposal, the proposed extension of the local calling areas would be provided to customers at no additional charge and would replace the extended area service guidelines currently used.
3. MT&T proposes to implement these changes immediately in exchanges equipped with digital switches and in the remaining exchanges coincident with the implementation of the Switching Equipment Modernization program. The company states that both these programs will be completed by the end of 1998.

4. MT&T's application can be examined at any of the company's business offices or at the offices of the CRTC in the following locations:

8. MT&T may file any reply comments by 15 July 1997.
9. 10. When a document is required to be filed by a specific date, the document must be actually received, not merely mailed, by that date.
11. In light of the comment period specified in this Public Notice, the Commission expects to issue a ruling with respect to MT&T's Tariff Notice 658 during the third quarter of 1997.
