Application (199613451) by 2953285 CANADA INC. (THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL) to amend its condition of licence pertaining to the distribution of advertising material by increasing the permissible amount of advertising from the current 8 minutes to a maximum of 12 minutes per hour.

2. ACROSS CANADA
|
Application (199613477) by SHOWCASE TELEVISION INC. to amend the following conditions of licence:
|
i) to amend its condition of licence pertaining to the distribution of advertising material by increasing the permissible amount of advertising from the current 8 minutes to a maximum of 12 minutes per hour.
|
ii) to amend condition of licence 1(b) by reducing from 95% to 90% the amount of programming broadcast by Showcase that has been produced outside of the United States.
|
iii) to amend condition of licence 2(b) to read:
|
Over the broadcast year, the licensee shall devote not less than one hundred (100%) percent of any three hours, in the aggregate, during the broadcast period between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. to the distribution of Canadian programs.
|
instead of
|
Over the broadcast year, the licensee shall devote not less than 100% of the broadcast period between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to the distribution of Canadian programs.
|
iv) to amend condition of licence 4 to read:
|
The licensee shall expend, over the licence term, no less than $3.75 million on licence fees to independent producers who are not Showcase shareholders for the production of fifteen (15) or more original Canadian drama programs.

The licensee shall expend, over the licence term, no less than $3.75 million on licence fees to independent producers who are not Showcase shareholders for the production of 15 half-hour original Canadian drama programs.

3. ACROSS CANADA

Applications (199613469, 199617130) by THE SPORTS NETWORK INC. "TSN" to amend the following conditions of licence:

i) to amend its condition of licence pertaining to the distribution of advertising material by increasing the permissible amount of advertising from the current 8 minutes to a maximum of 12 minutes per hour; and by adding:
|
Where a program occupies time in two or more consecutive clock hours, the licensee may exceed the maximum number of minutes of advertising material allowed in those clock hours if the average number of minutes of advertising material in the clock hours occupied by the program does not exceed the maximum number of minutes that would otherwise be allowed per clock hour.
|
ii) to amend its condition of licence pertaining to the nature of service by adding:
|
The licensee may distribute separate regional programming in place of its national service to affiliated distribution undertakings provided that the hours devoted to such regional programming do not exceed one-third of the licensee's quarterly program schedule.
