Public Notice CRTC 1997-3
Options for Extending Protection of Program Rights: Call for Comments
APPLICATIONS FOR AMENDMENTS CONCERNING COMMERCIAL FM (RADIO) PROGRAMMING UNDERTAKINGS
Public Notice CRTC 1995-60, A review of Certain Matters Concerning Radio, dated 21 April 1995, announced the revision of the format system for commercial FM stations by eliminating the "Pop, Rock, and Dance" (Group I) and "Country" (Group II) formats. A "Specialty" format will remain.
Format commitments are made in the Promise of Performance, each section of which is a condition of licence. Public Notice CRTC 1995-60 stated that such stations could apply to be relieved of these commitments. Pursuant to that Public Notice, applications have been received from the following licensees of (radio) programming undertakings to amend their licences in order to be relieved of the obligation to broadcast exclusively within the Group I or Group II formats, which are conditions of the licences, and to assume the following condition of licence:
It is a condition of licence that this station not be operated within the Specialty format as defined in Public Notice CRTC 1995-60, or as amended from time to time by the Commission.
