Telecom Order

Ottawa, 9 October 1997
Telecom Order CRTC 97-1449
On 31 July 1997 Bell Canada filed an application for approval of tariff revisions related to introduction of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) access service.
File No.: Tariff Notice 6077
1. AT&T Canada Long Distance Services Company (AT&T Canada LDS) filed comments proposing that the Commission issue a public notice with an interrogatory process prior to disposing of the tariff application. AT&T Canada LDS also requested that the Commission direct Bell Canada to disclose confidential information provided in the supporting economic study.
2. The Commission notes that the proposed service is intended for Internet service providers (ISPs). No comments have been received from any ISPs. The Commission does not find that there are persuasive reasons to support the issuance of a public notice.
3. With regard to the request for public disclosure, the Commission is of the view that the specific direct harm likely to result from disclosure outweighs any public interest in disclosure. The request for disclosure is therefore denied.
4. In light of the foregoing, the Commission approves the proposed tariff revisions.
