Telecom Order CRTC 97-1341
On 20 June 1997, Sogetel inc. (Sogetel) filed an application for approval of tariff revisions for recovery of the costs associated with requests for network extensions.

1. Sogetel submitted that it wished to recover the costs associated with network extensions directly from the customers who will request the extensions.
2. Sogetel would require the customer making the request to remit all expenses associated with the requested extension prior to the commencement of construction.
3. Sogetel noted that its application follows Local Competition, Telecom Decision CRTC 97-8, 1 May 1997 (Decision 97-8).
4. Sogetel submitted that, although Decision 97-8 does not apply directly to it, the decision indicates that the Commission wants to open the local telephone market to competition.
5. Sogetel maintained that network extensions cost much more than they generate in revenue.
6. The Commission notes, as Sogetel has, that the company is not subject to the provisions of Decision 97-8.
7. Accordingly, the Commission considers that the company's application is premature.
8. In light of the foregoing, Sogetel's application is denied.
