Decision

Ottawa, 21 February 1997
Decision CRTC 97-76
CHUM Limited
Across Canada - 199616984
Licence amendment for MuchMusic
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-156 dated 17 December 1996, the Commission approves the application by CHUM Limited to amend its condition of licence relating to advertising material by adding the following subsection thereto:
11.(e)  In addition to the twelve minutes of advertising material referred to in subsection 11.(a), the licensee may broadcast partisan political advertising during an election period.
This application was submitted following Public Notice CRTC 1995-159 dated 26 September 1995, wherein the Commission announced amendments to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987 that would allow partisan political advertising to be excluded from the maximum of 12 minutes of advertising per hour. In that notice, the Commission invited licensees of specialty services to apply for amendments to their conditions of licence that would permit them, during Canadian election periods, to exclude partisan political advertising from their calculations of the amount of advertising that they broadcast.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
