Decision CRTC 97-601
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Licence amendment for CBCS-FM
1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-106 dated 5 August 1997, the Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to amend the Promise of Performance of the radio programming undertaking CBCS-FM Sudbury, to reduce the level of local programming from a minimum of 30 hours each broadcast week to a minimum of 28 hours each broadcast week.
2. The Commission acknowledges the intervention opposing this application and expressing concerns regarding the importance of continuing the CBC's current role in reflecting the local community, especially in smaller communities like Sudbury. The Commission notes that, in its reply, the CBC agreed that it must "continue to provide a strong and relevant local service". In this regard, the CBC indicated that the local communities will continue to be reflected in local morning and afternoon shows, local information update breaks will be broadcast throughout the day and individual stations will make regular, dedicated contributions to the province-wide noon-hour show. The Commission is satisfied with the CBC's reply to the intervention.
