Decision

Ottawa, 21 August 1997
Decision CRTC 97-475
Coastline Broadcasting Ltd.
Mount Washington, British Columbia - 199613493
Licence renewal
1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-65 dated 26 May 1997, the Commission renews the Class 2 (fewer than 2,000 subscribers) licence held by Coastline Broadcasting Ltd., for the cable distribution undertaking serving Mount Washington, from 1 September 1997 to 31 August 2002.
2. The licence term granted herein, while less than the maximum of seven years permitted by the Broadcasting Act, will enable the Commission to consider the next licence renewal of this undertaking in accordance with the Commission's regional plan and to better distribute the workload within the Commission. The term is not reflective of any Commission concern regarding the licensee's performance.
3. The operation of this undertaking is regulated pursuant to Parts I, III and IV of the Cable Television Regulations, 1986 (the regulations) and the licence will be subject to the conditions in effect under the current licence as well as to those conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
4. The Commission approves the licensee's request to be relieved, by condition of licence, from the requirement of paragraph 22(1)(b) of the regulations to distribute on the basic band, the regional programming service of CBUT-1 Courtenay, in view of technical difficulties associated with the carriage of this signal. The licensee is authorized to distribute, instead, the CBC Northern Television Service. The licensee indicated that CBUT-1 would continue to be distributed as part of the basic service.
5. The Commission also approves the licensee's request to be relieved, by condition of licence, from the requirement of paragraph 22(1)(a) of the regulations to distribute, on the basic band, the local television service CKVU-TV-1 Courtenay, in view of technical difficulties associated with the carriage of this signal. The licensee indicated that it would continue to distribute this signal as part of the basic service.
6. It is a condition of licence that, for community programming and any other programming of a service that it originates, the licensee adhere to the guidelines on the depiction of violence in television programming set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Voluntary Code Regarding Violence in Television Programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
