Public Notice CRTC 1996-150-1

NOTICE OF CHANGE
RELATING TO A PUBLIC NOTICE |
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR BROADCASTING LICENCES TO CARRY ON NEW MULTIPOINT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS (MDS) RADIOCOMMUNICATION DISTRIBUTION UNDERTAKINGS TO PROVIDE SERVICE IN SOUTHERN ONTARIO
In Public Notice CRTC 1996-150 dated 26 November 1996, the Commission called for applications from parties wishing to obtain broadcasting licences to provide MDS service to communities in Southern Ontario.
The Commission wishes to advise potential applicants that the National Capital Region and surrounding areas in Eastern Ontario do not fall within the scope of this call.
At such time as the Commission has a complete application for the area, it will issue a separate call for MDS applications to serve the National Capital Region and surrounding regions in Eastern Ontario.
Secondly, the Commission wishes to advise potential applicants that the call in Public Notice CRTC 1996-150 does not contemplate proposals utilizing Local Multipoint Communications System (LMCS) technology operating in the 28 GHz frequency band. The Commission notes that MDS and LMCS use different frequency bands and somewhat different technologies and are therefore not technically mutually exclusive.
LMCS applications will be considered at a separate proceeding after the filing of a complete LMCS broadcasting application and the issuance of a call.
Prospective LMCS applicants who filed letters of intent in response to Public Notice CRTC 1996-150 have the option to amend their proposals and file MDS-based applications by the deadline of 3 February 1997 announced in that notice.
