Public Notice CRTC 1996-149-1
Proposed New Broadcasting Licence Fee Regulations
Erratum - Definition of Fee Revenue
A copy of the proposed broadcasting licence fee regulations was issued for public comment in an appendix to Public Notice CRTC 1996-149 dated 22 November 1996. In section 1 (Interpretation) of these proposed regulations, the term "fee revenue" is defined.
The last sentence of the definition should have read as follows:
This definition does not include any amount received by the licensee from another licensee, other than the amounts received from the Corporation for the sale of air-time.
The corrected sentence will be reflected in Part I of the Canada Gazette to be published 30 November 1996.
This correction reflects the Commission's intention to ensure that, with the exception of amounts received from the Corporation for the sale of air time, any payment made by the licensee of a broadcasting undertaking to the licensee of another broadcasting undertaking during a return year shall be excluded from the fee revenue of that other undertaking.
This rule is intended to prevent the same revenue from being assessed twice.
The Commission also notes that in its proposed new fee regulations, its intention is to parallel the type of fee revenue that is currently required to be reported under the existing fee regulations.
The deadline for interested parties wishing to comment on the proposed regulations remains Monday, 6 January 1997. While receipt of submissions will not be acknowledged, they will be considered by the Commission and will form part of the public record of the proceeding.
Comments on the proposed regulations are to be submitted to the Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2 (FAX: 819-994-0218).
