Decision

Ottawa, 5 December 1996
Decision CRTC 96-780
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Sudbury/Kirkland Lake, Ontario - 952690600
Licence amendment for CBON-FM
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-133 dated 3 October 1996, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CBON-FM Sudbury (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Kirkland Lake, operating on frequency 93.7 MHz (channel 229A) with an effective radiated power of 2,650 watts.
The CBC has advised that this transmitter will be used to distribute the programming service of the CBC French-language Radio (AM) network to communities not currently receiving this service, and will improve the quality of service at Kirkland Lake.
The CBC also advises that it will cease operation of its AM transmitter CBON-1 Kirkland Lake no later than twelve months following the successful implementation of the proposed transmitter.
The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority will only be granted, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
