Acquisition of assets
|
|
Following a Public Hearing in Vancouver beginning on 23 September 1996, the Commission approves the application for authority to acquire the assets of the radiocommunication distribution undertaking serving Passmore from Mount Sentinel T.V. Society, and for a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of this undertaking.

The Commission will issue a licence to Slocan Valley T.V. Society, expiring 31 August 1999, the current expiry date, upon surrender of the current licence. The licence will be subject to the same conditions as those in effect under the current licence, as well as to any other condition specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.

Based on the evidence filed with the application, the Commission is of the view that approval of this application is in the public interest.
|

The Commission notes that the undertaking is owned and controlled by a not-for-profit organization whose structure provides for its membership, primarily of members of the community at large, to participate, through the election of the Board of Directors, in the management, operation and programming of the undertaking.

|
This undertaking will distribute, in non-encrypted mode, the programming services of the Open Learning Agency (Knowledge Network) and CKTN-TV-1 Castlegar. This undertaking is also authorized, by condition of licence, to distribute, in non-encrypted mode, the programming services of KXLY-TV (ABC) and KREM-TV (CBS) Spokane, Washington.

The licensee is authorized to distribute these services on channels 2, 4 and 5, with a transmitter power of 5 watts and channel 7, with a transmitter power of 10 watts, as certified by the Department of Industry.

This decision is to be appended to the licence.
