Decision

Ottawa, 28 August 1996
Decision CRTC 96-532
Emtel inc.
Rivière-Beaudette and Pointe-Lalonde, Quebec -199604898
Licence amendment
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-61 dated 2 May 1996, the Commission approves the application by Emtel inc. to be relieved, by condition of licence, of the requirement of Section 4 of the Cable Television Regulations, 1986 (the regulations) to own and operate its own local head end, and to interconnect the above-noted undertaking, via microwave, with the Valleyfield Transvision inc. undertaking located at Valleyfield.
Therefore, in addition to the services required or authorized to be distributed pursuant to the applicable sections of the regulations, the licensee is authorized to distribute, at its option, CFTU-TV (IND) Montréal, WPTZ (NBC) Plattsburgh, New York as well as WCAX-TV (CBS) and WVNY (ABC) Burlington, Vermont, received via microwave, as part of the basic service.
The licensee is also authorized to distribute, as part of the basic service, the programming services of WETK Burlington, Vermont, and WCFE Plattsburgh, New York, two PBS signals, received via microwave.
In approving the licensee's request to distribute duplicate PBS services, the Commission has taken into consideration the fact that while both services will be received via microwave, they are receivable over the air at this undertaking.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
