Telecom Public Notice

Ottawa, 6 April 1995
Telecom Public Notice CRTC 95-16
MANITOBA TEL AND NORTHWESTEL - PROVISION OF DIRECTORY DATABASE INFORMATION AND REAL-TIME ACCESS TO DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE DATABASES
In Provision of Directory Database Information and Real-time Access to Directory Assistance Databases, Telecom Decision CRTC 95-3, 8 March 1995 (Decision 95-3), the Commission directed AGT Limited, BC TEL, Bell Canada, The Island Telephone Company Limited, Maritime Tel & Tel Limited, The New Brunswick Telephone Company Limited and Newfoundland Telephone Company Limited to make residential and non-residential, non-confidential subscriber listing information available in machine-readable form, on an exchange-level basis, under their general tariffs.
During the course of the proceeding leading to Decision 95-3, the Commission received a letter from Metrowide Communications requesting that Manitoba Telephone System (Manitoba Tel) and Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel) be made party to the proceeding. By letter dated 11 April 1994, the Commission denied the request, noting that to add Manitoba Tel and Northwestel at that stage would result in a delay in the proceeding. As noted in Decision 95-3, the Commission stated in that letter that the broader policy issues could be addressed in the current proceeding and, if necessary, a separate proceeding could be conducted for Manitoba Tel and Northwestel. In Decision 95-3, the Commission stated that it intended to issue a public notice initiating a proceeding to consider the applicability of that Decision to Manitoba Tel and Northwestel.
Consistent with the above, the Commission requests comment as to whether Decision 95-3 should apply to Manitoba Tel and Northwestel.
Procedure
1. Manitoba Tel and Northwestel are made party to this proceeding.
2. Other persons wishing to participate in the proceeding (interveners) must notify the Commission of their intention to do so by writing to Mr. Allan J. Darling, Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2, fax: 819-953-0795, by 27 April 1995. The Commission will issue a complete list of parties and their mailing addresses.
3. Manitoba Tel and Northwestel are directed to file comments, serving copies on interveners, by 11 May 1995.
4. Interveners may file comments, serving copies on Manitoba Tel and Northwestel, by 8 June 1995.
5. Manitoba Tel and Northwestel may file reply comments, serving copies on interveners, by 22 June 1995.
6. Where a document is to be filed or served by a specific date, the document must be actually received, not merely mailed, by that date.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
