Decision

Ottawa, 20 October 1995
Decision CRTC 95-766
Radio Nord Inc.
Val-d'Or/Amos, Quebec - 951429000
Power increase for CHOA-FM-1
Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-136 dated 11 August 1995, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CHOA-FM Rouyn-Noranda by increasing the effective radiated power of the CHOA-FM-1 Val-d'Or/Amos transmitter from 44,300 watts to 100,000 watts.
The Commission received an intervention submitted by Radiomutuel Inc. requesting that approval of this application be made conditional upon the low-power transmitter CHOA-FM-2 Val D'Or being closed down. In its reply to the intervention, the applicant indicated that it had no objection to the closure of this transmitter. Accordingly, the Commission expects the applicant to submit, within three months of the date of this decision, an application to amend the licence for CHOA-FM in order to reflect the shutting down of CHOA-FM-2. The applicant will be required to cease to operate CHOA-FM-2 as soon as CHOA-FM-1 is in operation at the new power level approved herein.
The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
