Decision

Ottawa, 5 October 1995
Decision CRTC 95-730
Clearview Cable Limited
Reef's Harbour, Bartlett's Harbour, L'Anse-au-Clair, Plum Point, Red Bay and Sandy Cove, Newfoundland - 942431800 - 942445800 - 942446600 - 942447400 - 942448200 - 942449000
Addition of CJON-TV
Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-100 dated 21 June 1995, the Commission approves the applications for authority to distribute CJON-TV St. John's, received via satellite, as part of the basic service of the undertakings serving the above-mentioned localities.
The Commission is satisfied that the distribution of CJON-TV is in line with the guidelines on the cable distribution of distant Canadian television signals first set out in Public Notice CRTC 1985-61 and reiterated in Public Notice CRTC 1993-74.
The Commission notes that Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Limited (NTV), licensee of CJON-TV, has advised that it has no objection to the distribution of CJON-TV by Clearview Cable Limited. In a letter to the Commission, NTV stated that it had in the past received very limited advertising revenues from these areas, and added that it would encourage businesses in these areas to participate in its NTV/OZ FM province-wide tourism campaign. Therefore, the Commission expects NTV to restrict advertising to its province-wide tourism campaign.
The Commission acknowledges the intervention received in support of these applications.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
