Licence amendments for television programming undertakings concerning the airing of infomercials
In Public Notice CRTC 1994-139 dated 7 November 1994, the Commission announced that it would be prepared to consider applications for licence amendments from licensees of private television programming undertakings who are interested in airing infomercials during the broadcast day.
In that notice, the Commission stated that it would also expect licensees who air commercial mes-
sages that are 2 minutes or longer to adhere to the requirements concerning the identification of paid commercial programming as described in criterion 7. |
Further to queries made by various television broadcasters, the Commission hereby advises that criterion 7 applies to messages exceeding 2 minutes in length. A Public Notice clarifying the Commission's expectation in that respect will be issued in the near future.
In Public Notice CRTC 1994-160 dated 29 December 1994, the Commission announced applications submitted in response to Public Notice CRTC 1994-139. The Commission approves the applications to amend the broadcasting licences for the television programming undertakings CHEX-TV Peterborough and its transmitter; CHEX-TV-2 Oshawa and CFJC-TV Kamloops, by adding to each licence the following condition of licence:
In addition to the 12 minutes of advertising material permitted by subsection 11(1) of the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, the licensee may broadcast more than 12 minutes of advertising material in any clock hour in a broadcast day, in order to broadcast infomercials as defined in Public Notice CRTC 1994-139 and in accordance with the criteria contained in that public notice, as amended.
