Decision CRTC 95-518
Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc.
Toronto, Ontario - 950426700
Acquisition of assets
Following a Public Hearing in Winnipeg beginning on 5 June 1995, the Commission approves the application for authority to acquire the assets of the radio programming undertaking CKYC Toronto from Key Radio CKYC Limited, and for a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of this undertaking.
The Commission will issue a licence to Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc., expiring 31 August 1999, upon surrender of the current licence. The licence will be subject to the same conditions as those in effect under the current licence, as well as to any other condition specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
In approving this application, the Commission has taken into account the fact that Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telemedia Communications Inc. and that the transaction thus represents an intracorporate reorganization without any change occurring in the control, programming or management of the licensee. The Commission notes that once this transfer of assets is complete, Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc. will amalgamate with Telemedia Communications Inc. and continue under that name.
It is a condition of licence that the applicant adhere to the guidelines on gender portrayal set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) "Sex-Role Portrayal Code for Television and Radio Programming", as amended from time to time and accepted by the Commission.
It is also a condition of licence that the applicant adhere to the provisions of the CAB's "Broadcast Code for Advertising to Children", as amended from time to time and accepted by the Commission.
