Licence amendments for television programming undertakings concerning the airing of infomercials
Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-42 dated 9 March 1995, the Commission approves the applications to amend the broadcasting licences for the television programming undertakings CFTO-TV Toronto, CJOH-TV Ottawa, CFPL-TV London, CKNX-TV Wingham and CHWI-TV Wheatley, by adding to each licence the following condition of licence:
In addition to the 12 minutes of advertising material permitted by subsection 11(1) of the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, the licensee may broadcast infomercials as defined in Public Notice CRTC 1994-139 and in accordance with the criteria contained in that public notice, as amended in Public Notice CRTC 1995-93 dated 13 June 1995.
The Commission acknowledges two interventions opposing the application by CJOH-TV and is satisfied with the licensee's reply to the interventions.
The Commission also acknowledges the comment submitted by the Ontario Agricultural Commodity Council with regard to the impact that the broadcast of infomercials during the broadcast day would have on local programming such as that aimed at the farm and rural community.
