Ottawa, 29 March 1995

Decision CRTC 95-121

Rock 95 Broadcasting (Barrie-Orillia) Ltd.
Barrie, Ontario - 941375800

Licence amendment for CFJB-FM

Following Public Notice CRTC 1994-153 dated 19 December 1994, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CFJB-FM Barrie by increasing the effective radiated power from 45,500 watts to 96,300 watts.

The licensee indicated that the proposed power increase should resolve existing reception problems encoutered in central Barrie.

The Department of Industry Science and Technology (DIST) has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the DIST that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.

The Commission acknowledges the numerous interventions received in support of this application. It also notes that Telemedia Communications Ontario Inc., licensee of radio stations in Orillia, Midland and Bracebridge/Gravenhurst submitted an intervention opposing this application on technical grounds. The Commission is satisfied with the licensee's response to that intervention and notes that the licensee's technical proposal has received the approval of the DIST.

Secretary General
