Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region beginning on 25 April 1994, the Commission approves the applications by Great Pacific Industries Inc. (Great Pacific) for authority to acquire the assets of the following radio programming undertakings: CIFM-FM Kamloops and its transmitters CIFM-FM-2 Clearwater, CIFM-FM-3 Merritt, CIFM-FM-4 Clinton, CIFM-FM-5 Barriere, CIFM-FM-6 Cache Creek/Ashcroft, CIFM-FM-7 Pritchard and CIFM-FM-8 Chase; CFJC Kamloops and its transmitters CFJC-FM Merritt and CFJC-FM-1 Clearwater; as well as the television programming undertakings consisting of CFJC-TV Kamloops and its transmitters CFJC-TV-3 Merritt, CFJC-TV-4 Clinton, CFJC-TV-5 Williams Lake, CFJC-TV-6 100 Mile House, CFJC-TV-8 Chase, CFJC-TV-11 Quesnel, CFJC-TV-12 Nicola and CFJC-TV-19 Pritchard, from Jim Pattison Enterprises Ltd., and for broadcasting licences to continue the operation of these undertakings.
The Commission will issue licences to Great Pacific, upon surrender of the current licences. The licence for CFJC-TV and its transmitters will expire 31 August 1995; the licences for CIFM-FM and CFJC and their respective transmitters on 31 August 1996, the expiry dates of the current licences. The licences will be subject to the same conditions as those specified in the current licences as well as to any other condition specified in the licences to be issued.
In approving these applications, the Commission has taken into account the fact that Great Pacific will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jim Pattison Ltd., the current owner, and that the transaction thus represents an intra-corporate reorganization without any change occurring in the control, programming or management of the licensee.
