Public Notice

Ottawa, 19 April 1993
Public Notice CRTC 1993-39
Proposed Amendments to the Radio Regulations, 1986; Elimination of Minimum Requirements for Spoken Word Content
In Public Notice CRTC 1993-38 of today's date, the Commission announced the introduction of various changes to its policy respecting local programming on commercial radio stations. These changes include elimination of the policy requirement for spoken word content in the programming broadcast by licensees of commercial FM radio stations. Licensees of such stations have been invited to apply for deletion of spoken word commitments contained in their Promises of Performance.
Consistent with this change in policy, the Commission now proposes to amend the Radio Regulations, 1986 by deleting the requirement for spoken word content currently specified therein.
A copy of the proposed amendments is attached to this notice. Interested parties wishing to comment on the proposed amendments must send their submissions to the Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2, by 19 May 1993.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
