Telecom Public Notice

Ottawa, 3 April 1992
Telecom Public Notice CRTC 92-20
BRITISH COLUMBIA TELEPHONE COMPANY -INTRODUCTION OF UNITED STATES DESTINATION CALLING FOR WIDE AREA TELEPHONE SERVICE
Reference: Tariff Notice 2554
The Commission has received an application from British Columbia Telephone Company (B.C. Tel), dated 4 February 1992, for approval of tariff revisions to Wide Area Telephone Service (WATS) providing for the introduction of a new zone 5 to permit calling solely to the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). The proposed service would be renamed "Canada & United States WATS".
B.C. Tel states that the proposed United States WATS rates are aligned with those of the proposed Canada WATS rate restructuring filed under Tariff Notice 2469 (see CRTC Telecom Public Notice 1991-86, 27 November 1991). In addition, B.C. Tel states that the proposed revisions would establish WATS rates to the United States that are lower than existing Message Toll Service rates.
In support of its application, the company has filed information for which it has claimed confidentiality. An abridged version of this information has been provided for the public record.
The Commission has addressed interrogatories to B.C. Tel with respect to its application. The company has been directed to respond by 30 April 1992.
The application may be examined at any of the company's business offices or at the offices of the CRTC, Room 201, Central Building, Les Terrasses de la Chaudière, 1 Promenade du Portage, Hull, Quebec, or Suite 1380, 800 Burrard Street, Vancouver, British Columbia. A copy of B.C. Tel's application and of its responses to the Commission's interrogatories may be obtained by any interested person upon request directed to the company at the address shown below.
If you wish to comment on the application, please write to Mr. Allan J. Darling, Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2, by 4 May 1992. A copy of your letter should be sent to Ms. Dorothy E. Byrne, Vice-President, Legal & Corporate Affairs, British Columbia Telephone Company, 21-3777 Kingsway, Burnaby, British Columbia, V5H 3Z7.
