Radio Communautaire Montagnaise Escoumins Inc.

Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1991-101 dated 4 October 1991, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CHME-FM Les Escoumins, from 1 September 1992 to 31 August 1999, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
CHME-FM will broadcast a total of 119 hours per week of programming, of which 111 hours will be local programming and 8 hours will originate from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; 30 minutes of this programming will be in the Montagnais language and 118 hours 30 minutes in French.
The Commission notes that this station is a Type B FM native radio station in accordance with Public Notice CRTC 1990-89 dated 20 September 1990 entitled Native Broadcasting Policy.
The applicant is reminded of the recently implemented amendments to the Radio Regulations, 1986, which set out requirements for a minimum level of Spoken Word programming and Canadian musical selections. It is a condition of licence that the licensee broadcast no more than an average of 4 minutes of advertising per hour per day, with a maximum of 6 minutes in any given hour, in accordance with the native radio policy for Type B stations.
It is a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the guidelines on sex-role portrayal set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) Sex-Role Portrayal Code for Television and Radio Programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
It is also a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the provisions of the CAB's Broadcast Code for Advertising to Children, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
