Decision

Ottawa, 28 August 1991
Decision CRTC 91-669
Shaw Radio Ltd.
Lethbridge, Alberta - 910005800
Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region held on 14 May 1991, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CHEC Lethbridge from 1 September 1991 to 31 August 1996, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
The Commission reaffirms the particular importance it attaches to Canadian talent development and notes the licensee's proposed commitment of $8,490 per year in direct expenditures for this purpose. It encourages the licensee to continue its efforts with regard to Canadian talent development during the new licence term and to develop new initiatives for the support, development and on-air exposure of local and regional talent.
It is a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the self-regulatory guidelines on sex-role portrayal set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) Sex-Role Portrayal Code for Television and Radio Programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission. It is also a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the provisions of the CAB's Broadcast Code for Advertising to Children, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
The Commission acknowledges the interventions by H. Roger Brown, Peter J. Brown and Leah Waters concerning this application and the licensee's reply thereto.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
