Following a Public Hearing in St. John's, Newfoundland beginning on 3 April 1990, the Commission renews the broadcasting licences for CIML-FM Makkovik and CJPL-FM Postville from 1 September 1990 to 31 August 1992 and for CJHL-FM Hopedale, CITN-FM Nain and CHLR-FM Rigolet from 1 October 1990 to 31 August 1992, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licences to be issued. These terms will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of these licences following its review of native broadcasting, as announced in Public Notice CRTC 1990-12 dated 2 February 1990. These stations broadcast locally-originated programs and rebroadcast programs originating from the Okalakatiget Society network.
In view of the fact that these non- profit corporations will be supported in part by government loans or grants, the licensees are reminded that they should ensure that they retain full control over all management and programming decisions at all times.
It is a condition of each licence that the licensee adhere to the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) self-regulatory guidelines on sex-role stereotyping, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
It is also a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to the provisions of the CAB's Broadcast Code for Advertising to Children, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
