RENEWAL OF TELEVISION BROADCASTING UNDERTAKINGS AND TELEVISION NETWORK LICENCES IN QUEBEC

For administrative reasons, the Commission renews the licences for the television broadcasting undertakings and the television networks listed in the appendix to this decision. The licences will be effective from 1 April 1990, 1 September 1990 or 1 October 1990 to 31 August 1991, subject to the terms and conditions specified in the current licences.

These terms will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of these licences at a Public Hearing to be held in the fall of 1990. At that time, the Commission will wish to review with the licensees and with other interested parties the dubbing practices of these networks and stations.
|
|
In December 1988, the Commission announced the establishment of a Task Force to examine the problems surrounding the broadcast of dubbed programs by French-language television stations in Canada. Its report was submitted to the Commission on 18 May 1989 and forwarded to the Department of Communications on 15 June 1989. The Task Force recommended that the Commission discuss with licensees their performance and objectives in this regard at the time of licence renewal.
