Decision

Ottawa, 3 August 1988
Decision CRTC 88-487
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Orillia, Ontario -873798300
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1988-96 dated 13 June 1988, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CBCO-FM Orillia by decreasing the effective radiated power from 8,640 watts to 1,080 watts, by changing the frequency from 105.9 MHz to 91.5 MHz and by relocating the transmitter to a site near Hillsdale, Ontario.
The CBC has indicated that it intends to shut down CBCM-FM Penetanguishene following implementation of the new facility at Hillsdale and that it will develop a plan to inform listeners of the advantages of this action. Accordingly, the Commission expects the licensee to cease operating CBCM-FM Pentanguishene within three months of the date on which the new transmitter becomes operational.
The CBC has also indicated that these changes will result in a reduction of the coverage overlap in the Orillia/Barrie area while providing an adequate quality of service to the Orillia and Pentanguishene/Midland areas.
