Following a Public Hearing in Vancouver on 25 October 1988, the Commission approves the application for a licence for an FM radio broadcasting transmitting undertaking at Winlaw on the frequency 91.7 MHz, channel 219, with an effective radiated power of 100 watts to rebroadcast the programs of the CBC English-language AM radio network originating from CBU Vancouver.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 31 August 1992, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.
The Commission notes that the use of this FM frequency conforms with the guidelines set out in Public Notice CRTC 1985-142 dated 9 July 1985. The CBC has indicated that it intends to shut down CBUJ Slocan and CBUI New Denver, British Columbia, which currently broadcast the programs of the English-language AM radio network service, within one year of the date on which the new transmitter becomes operational. The Commission expects the CBC to cease the operation of CBUJ and CBUI within this period and to inform listeners of the changes herein approved.
