Decision

Ottawa, 1 September 1988
Decision CRTC 88-577
VOCM Radio Newfoundland Limited
Marystown, Newfoundland -863268900
Following a Public Hearing in St. John's, Newfoundland, on 12 March 1987, the Commission denies the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CHCM Marystown by changing the frequency from 560 kHz to 740 kHz, increasing the night-time transmitter power from 5,000 watts to 10,000 watts and relocating the transmitter to a location approximately 3 kilometers southwest of its present site in Marystown.
The licensee had indicated that this application was contingent upon an application by the licensee to change the frequency of CHVO Spaniard's Bay/Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and to increase the transmitter power from 5,000 watts to 10,000 watts. The Commission has denied that application in Decision CRTC 88-578 of today's date.
The Commission acknowledges the intervention submitted by CHUM Limited raising concerns about the potential encroachment by CHVO on the local stations the intervener operates in St. John's.
Fernand Bélisle
Secretary General
