Decision

Ottawa, 21 April 1986
Decision CRTC 86-377
CHUR-AM Radio North Bay, a general partnership
North Bay, Ontario - 852570100
Following a Public Hearing in Hull, Quebec on 18 March 1986, the Commission approves the application for authority to acquire the assets of CHUR North Bay from Gateway City Broadcasters Limited and for a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of that undertaking.
The Commission will issue a licence to CHUR-AM Radio North Bay, a general partnership, upon surrender of the current licence. The licence will expire 31 March 1987, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued. This term will allow the Commission to review the new licensee's programming plans in the context of a renewal application.
The Commission notes that the application does not involve a change of effective control but rather the issuance of a new licence to a general partnership comprising all investors previously holding shares in Gateway City Broadcasters Limited. Control continues to be shared equally by the three partners. This transaction will provide the funds necessary to cover the operating shortfall during the company's startup period.
The applicant is reminded that the licence to be issued is subject to the revised condition of licence contained in the Commission's Public Announcement of 7 January 1980 and, therefore, that it must submit an application for the prior approval of the Commission should the nature and composition of the general partnership be altered.
