Decision

Ottawa, 16 January 1985
Decision CRTC 85-24
Mascon Communications Corp.
Chase, British Columbia - 833034200
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1984-294 dated 4 December 1984, the Commission approves the application to add the carriage of the signals of WJBK-TV (CBS), WDIV (NBC), WTVS (PBS) Detroit, Michigan and KOMO-TV (ABC) Seattle, Washington on the broadcasting receiving undertaking serving Chase. These signals will be received via satellite from the Canadian Satellite Communications Inc, (CANCOM) network.
The licensee also applied to amend its licence by increasing the maximum monthly subscriber fee from $17.00 to $23,00 to cover the costs of providing the CANCOM services noted above. This part of the application is approved in part. The Commission approves an increase in this fee to $21.14. The $4.14 fee increase may only be charged to subscribers at such time as the above-noted services are available to them. This increase is justified based on the charge to be paid by the licensee to CANCOM and to cover the direct incremental costs related to the exhibition of the CANCOM signals.
The Commission notes that the signal of KOMO-TV (ABC) Seattle is not yet distributed by CANCOM. Accordingly, the licensee may only charge $3,12 of the increase when it provides the CBS, NBC and PBS signals and the remaining $1.02 at such time as an authorized ABC signal from CANCOM is available to subscribers.
