Decision

Ottawa, 9 July 1984
Decision CRTC 84-547
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Lytton, British Columbia - 822858700
Following a Public Hearing in Hull, Quebec on 5 June 1984, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio station at Lytton on the frequency 93.1 MHz, channel 226A, with an effective radiated power of 65 watts to rebroadcast the programs of the CBC English-language AM Radio Network service, received from CBU Vancouver.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 30 September 1988, subject to the conditions of licence specified in the licence to be issued.
The CBC intends to cease operating CBRE Lytton, a low-power AM radio station, one year after the FM station authorized herein is in operation.
In Public Notice CRTC 1983-22 concerning the Long Range Radio Plan of the CBC, the Commission determined that, wherever possible if suitable AM frequencies are available, the CBC basic service should be provided on the AM band. However, the CBC stated in the application that the existing AM station is not providing an adequate service to the area because of electrical and co-channel interference and that no other suitable AM frequency is available. Under the circumstances of this case, the Commission is satisfied that the use of the FM frequency is warranted.
Fernand Bélisle Secretary General
