Application 2010-0737-8, received 30 April 2010

CFOB-FM Fort Frances, CKDR-2-FM Sioux Lookout and CKDR-6 Atikokan – Licence amendments

1.      The Commission approves the application by Northwoods Broadcasting Limited (Northwoods) to amend the broadcasting licence for the English-language radio programming undertaking CFOB-FM Fort Frances in order for CFOB-FM to replace the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CKDR-2-FM Sioux Lookout as the source of programming broadcast by the AM rebroadcasting transmitter CKDR-6 Atikokan. The Commission also approves the licensee’s request to amend the broadcasting licence for CKDR-2-FM in order to delete its rebroadcasting transmitter CKDR-6. The Commission received an intervention in support of this application.

2.      The licensee stated that it would be more appropriate for residents and advertisers in Atikokan to receive the CFOB-FM signal since they share more “communities of interest” with Fort Frances.

3.      As a result of the approval granted in this decision, the Commission revokes the authority granted to CKDR-2-FM to broadcast programming on the rebroadcasting transmitter CKDR-6.

4.      The Commission notes that approval of this application has no technical implications because no transmitters will be moved, added or taken away, and because no changes in the official contours of either the originating stations or the rebroadcasting transmitter are planned.
