Application 2015-0431-6

CFNO-FM Marathon and its transmitter CFNO-FM-2 Hornepayne - Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by North Superior Broadcasting Ltd. (North Superior) to change the authorized contours of CFNO-FM-2 Hornepayne, a transmitter of the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CFNO-FM Marathon, by increasing the effective radiated power from 4 to 280 watts and the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 17.5 to 37 metres. As a result of the increase in power, the transmitter’s status will change from that of a low-power, unprotected service to that of a protected Class A1 service. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
  2. North Superior stated that it had received a request to increase the power and coverage for the Hornepayne area. The change will provide the means to notify the public in a wider geographic area around Hornepayne of interruptions in local public services (e.g. school bus cancellations and road closures).
  3. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
