CBCS-FM Sudbury and its transmitter CBLJ-FM Wawa; CBVE-FM Québec and its transmitter CBVG-FM Gaspé; and CBAM-FM Moncton and its transmitter CBAM-FM-1 Sackville –Technical changes
1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) relating to CBCS-FM Sudbury, by changing the class of its transmitter CBLJ-FM Wawa from B to B1 and by decreasing that transmitter’s average effective radiated power (ERP) from 50,000 to 4,807 watts (non-directional antenna with an increase in the effective height of antenna above average terrain (EHAAT) from 114.6 to 132.6 metres).
2. The Commission also approves the application by the CBC relating to CBVE-FM Québec, by decreasing the average ERP of its transmitter CBVG-FM Gaspé from 2,160 to 1,730 watts (and decreasing the maximum ERP from 4,250 to 2,610 watts) and by decreasing the EHAAT from 409.5 to 384.5 metres.[1]
3. Finally, the Commission approves the application by the CBC relating to CBAM-FM Moncton, by moving its transmitter CBAM-FM-1 Sackville to a new transmission site in Sackville, by changing the antenna radiation pattern from directional to non-directional, and by decreasing the EHAAT from 62.1 to 44.5 metres.[2]
4. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with these applications.
5. The CBC stated that the requested technical changes for CBLJ-FM and CBVG-FM are necessary due to budget reductions. The licensee further stated that it must relocate CBAM-FM-1 since it is closing the current transmitter site, the Radio-Canada International site, located east of Sackville. It indicated that the new site, located just south of Ogden Mill, will increase the transmitter’s coverage due to the site’s greater proximity to Sackville.
6. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that broadcasting certificates will be issued.
