CHOW-FM Amos – Technical change

1.

The Commission approves the application by Radio Boréale to change the authorized contours for the French-language, Type B community radio programming undertaking CHOW-FM Amos by increasing the average effective radiated power from 5,376 watts to 17,787 watts, by decreasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 124.4 metres to 106.3 metres and by relocating the antenna. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

The licensee indicated that the proposed changes are needed to relocate its transmitter and antenna to a new site. All other technical parameters remain unchanged.

This change will increase the population served within the 3 mV/m contour from 18,503 to 23,590. The population served within the 0.5 mV/m contour will increase from 23,635 to 62,930.

The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
