CBRT Calgary - New transmitter in Etzikom

1.

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CBRT Calgary in order to add the transmitter CBCA-TV-1 Etzikom. The Commission did not receive any interventions with respect to this application.

2.

The Commission notes that the transmitter to be added to the CBRT licence, CBCA-TV-1 Etzikom, is currently operated by the CBC as a radiocommunication distribution undertaking (RDU) that rebroadcasts the programming of CHAT-TV Medicine Hat. In Broadcasting Decision 2008-49, the Commission approved the disaffiliation of CHAT-TV from the CBC English-language network. Approval of this application will ensure that residents of the Etzikom area will continue to receive CBC programming from CBRT Calgary.

3.

The CBC has requested that should this application be approved, the licence for the above-noted RDU be revoked. Accordingly, pursuant to sections 9(1)(e) and 24(2) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission revokes the broadcasting licence issued to the CBC with respect to CBCA-TV-1 Etzikom.
