Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2005-90

Developmental community radio station on Hornby Island - Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Hornby Community Radio Society to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking authorized in Developmental community radio station on Hornby Island, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004-412, 14 September 2004, in order to change the frequency from 91.5 MHz (channel 218VLP) to 96.5 MHz (channel 243VLP).
2. The licensee advised that the proposed change is intended to resolve interference problems with the radio station in Sechelt, British Columbia, approved in English-language FM commercial radio station in Sechelt, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2005-167, 20 April 2005.
3. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
4. The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
5. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
6. Given that the technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service, the Commission also reminds the licensee that it will have to select another frequency if the Department so requires.
