CHLM-FM Rouyn-Noranda and its transmitter CHLM-FM-1 Amos/Val d'Or - Acquisition of assets

1.

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for authority to acquire the assets of the radio programming undertaking CHLM-FM Rouyn-Noranda and its transmitter CHLM-FM-1 Amos/Val d'Or from Radio Nord Communications inc. (Radio Nord), and to acquire a broadcasting licence to continue the operation of this undertaking.

2.

In its application, the CBC indicated that, since February 2000, CHLM-FM has been broadcasting, in its entirety, the CBC's regional network programming and that Radio Nord has not broadcast any local programming on this station.

3.

Furthermore, the CBC made a commitment to produce 27 hours 30 minutes of local programming in each broadcast week. The remainder of the programming will originate with the CBC's La Première Chaîne radio network, received from CBF-FM Montréal.

4.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

5.

Upon the surrender of the current licence, the Commission will issue a licence to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to continue the operation of CHLM-FM Rouyn-Noranda and its transmitter CHLM-FM-1 Amos/Val d'Or. The licence will expire 31 August 2007, the current expiry date for CBF-FM Montréal, and will be subject to the same terms and conditions as those specified in Licence renewal for CBC stations affiliated to La Premiére Chaîne, Decision CRTC 2001-529, 31 August 2001.
