Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2002-124 |
Ottawa, 30 April 2002 |
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation |
Application 2001-1196-4 |
Addition of a transmitter of CBFX-FM Montréal at Mont-Laurier |
1. |
The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CBFX-FM Montréal, by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Mont-Laurier. |
2. |
This approval is consistent with Licences for CBC French-language television and radio renewed for a seven-year term, Decision CRTC 2000-2, 6 January 2000 and with Achieving a better balance: Report on French-language broadcasting services in a minority environment, Public Notice CRTC 2001-25, 12 February 2001, in which the Commission stated that it expected the licensee to extend the service coverage of La Chaîne culturelle. |
3. |
The transmitter will operate in accordance with the following technical parameters: |
Location |
Frequency |
Channel |
Effective radiated power |
Mont-Laurier |
91.1 MHz |
216 C1 |
72,000 watts |
4. |
The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
5. |
The Commission reminds the licensee, that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued. |
6. |
The transmitter must be operational within 12 months of today's date. The licensee's failure to meet this deadline will cause the authority to become null and void, unless a request for an extension of time is submitted and approved by the Commission within that period. |
7. |
The Commission acknowledges the numerous interventions filed in support of this application. |
