2001 Price cap filing - Increases to rates for residential services in New Brunswick and Newfoundland

 

Reference: NBTel TN 860 and NewTel TN 650

 

The Commission approves Aliant Telecom Inc.'s application to increase residential service rates in New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

1.

Aliant Telecom Inc., on behalf of the former NBTel Inc. and NewTel Communications Inc., proposed to increase the monthly rates for single-line residential service by $2. These increases would also apply to service bundles that include single-line residential service.

Aliant Telecom filed updates to its price cap indices and sub-basket indices in conjunction with its application.

The Commission received comments opposing the proposed rate increases.

4.

The Commission notes that the proposed rate changes are within the limits established by the price cap indices.

Aliant Telecom filed its price cap filing on 1 April 2001 on behalf of the former Island Telecom Inc., Maritime Tel & Tel Limited, NBTel and NewTel. On 10 April 2001, Aliant Telecom amended its application to revise Items 45 to 49 of NBTel's General Tariff and Items 50, 400 and 405 of NewTel's General Tariff.

The revisions take effect on 15 May 2001.
