The Hockey Channel |
|
On 24 November 2000, the Commission approved a new Category 2 specialty television service to be known as The Hockey Channel. The terms and conditions generally applicable to Category 2 services are set out in the public notice accompanying this and other decisions released today. |

Conditions of licence |
|
The licence, when issued, will expire 31 August 2007 and will be subject to the following conditions as well as to those set out in both Public Notice CRTC 2000-171 andin the licence to be issued. |

Nature of service |
|
a) The licensee shall provide a national English-language Category 2 specialty television dedicated exclusively to all aspects of the game of hockey including: hockey news, coverage of professional and amateur games, analysis and interpretation of hockey news and events (talk shows and open-line programming), hockey-related documentaries and replaying of classic games, interviews, magazine shows and training/instructional programming. |

b) The programming must be drawn exclusively from the following categories, as set out in Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990: |

c) No more than 5% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast year shall be dedicated to coverage of live NHL hockey games. |
|
d) No more than 15% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast week shall be drawn from category 7. |
|
e) The licensee may distribute separate regional programming in place of its national service to affiliated distribution undertakings, provided that the hours dedicated to such regional programming do not exceed 10% of its overall programming. |

Definitions |
|
Broadcast day refers to the 24-hour period beginning 6 a.m. each day.
