Licence amendment to allow the licensee to make changes to the television and radio services offered

1.

The Commission approves the application to amend the licence for the radiocommunication distribution undertaking serving Logan Lake by authorizing the licensee to make the changes described below.

2.

The licensee is authorized:

  • to delete the following television programming services:

CBC French-language  television service
WDIV (NBC) Detroit, Michigan
The Nashville Network (TNN)
CBC Newsworld
SuperChannel
WTOL-TV (CBS) Toledo, Ohio
CBC English-language television service

  • to replace them with the following television programming services:

WTBS (IND) Atlanta, Georgia
KING-TV (NBC) Seattle, Washington
WUHF (FOX) Rochester, New York
The Discovery Channel
The Learning Channel (TLC)
KIRO-TV (CBS) Seattle, Washington
Country Music Television (CMT)

  • to delete channel 59 and add channel 24
  • to add transmitters for the distribution of the following non-encrypted television programming services:

Space: The Imagination Station
CTV Sports Net Inc.
WSBK-TV Boston, Massachusetts
Outdoor Life
MuchMusic
The Life Channel
Lifestyle Television (WTN)

The licensee is authorized to distribute these seven new services on channels 16, 20, 28, 32, 36, 40, and 48, each with a transmitter power of 20 watts.

  • to add the following non-encrypted radio programming services:

CBC English-language radio
service
CISN-FM Edmonton
CKIS-FM Calgary
CHFI-FM Toronto
CBU Vancouver

The licensee is authorized to distribute the five new services using the frequencies 89.3 MHz (channel 207LP), 91.1 MHz (channel 216LP), 94.9 MHz (channel 235LP), 99.1 MHz (channel 256LP) and 106.7 MHz (channel 294LP), respectively, each with an effective radiated power of 22.9 watts.

The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that with respect to the addition of radio services, this application is conditionally technically acceptable. The Department will only issue a broadcasting certificate once it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

In accordance with section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the above-mentioned amendments will only be valid when the Department of Industry certifies to the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that broadcasting certificates have been or will be issued.
