Decision CRTC 99-260 |
Ottawa, 18 August 1999 |
North Superior Broadcasting Ltd. |
Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 1999-99 dated 11 June 1999 |
Addition of a transmitter at Michipicoten for the distribution of the programming of CJWA-FM |
1. The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CJWA-FM Wawa (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a low-power transmitter at Michipicoten. |
2. The applicant states that the proposed transmitter will improve coverage within its licensed area. |
3. The authority will only be effective and the licence will only be amended when the new transmitter is installed and ready to begin operation. When the licensee has completed installation and is prepared to commence operation, it must advise the Commission in writing. If the transmitter is not installed and ready to operate within 12 months of today’s date, extensions to this time frame may be granted provided that the licensee applies in writing to the Commission before the 12-month period or any extension of that period expires. |
4. As proposed, the new FM transmitter will operate on the frequency 100.7 MHz, channel 264LP, with an effective radiated power of 5 watts. |
5. The technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service. Accordingly, the applicant would have to select another frequency for the operation of the service should optimum utilization of the broadcasting spectrum so require. |
6. The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable. The Department will only issue a broadcasting certificate once it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
7. In accordance with section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the above-mentioned amendment will only be valid when the Department of Industry certifies to the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a Broadcasting Certificate has been or will be issued. |
