Decision

Ottawa, 30 January 1995
Decision CRTC 95-31
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, (acting as agent for the Atmospheric Environment Service of Environment Canada
Whitehorse, Yukon Territory- 941094500
New low-power AM radio station
Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region on 30 November 1994, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language AM radio programming undertaking at Whitehorse, to broadcast continuous weather forecasts and weather warnings 24-hours-a-day, on the frequency 810 kHz, with an transmitter power of 50 watts.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 31 August 2001, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.
In Public Notice CRTC 1993-95 dated 28 June 1993 and entitled "A licensing Policy for Low-Power Radio Broadcasting", the Commission stated that licensees of low-power radio undertakings should be subject to a condition of licence that would define their programming in such a way as to ensure that they do not change their programming and begin to offer the same service as conventional licensees, without Commission approval. Accordingly, it is a condition of licence that this station be used solely to broadcast weather and environmental information received from Weatheradio Canada.
